According to research conducted by Nielsen, the ice-cream market in the Republic of Ireland was worth €150 million in the latest 52 weeks up to 23 February 2020.
Symbol groups and forecourts account for 40% of total ice-cream sales across the country.
According to Nielsen, impulse ice-cream purchasing accounts for 30% of total ice-cream sales. This means that visibility in-store is crucial if retailers are to positively disrupt the shopper journey.

75% of Irish consumers say they would like to see a wider variety of ice cream made with high quality ingredients.
Supporting local is of high importance to shoppers with 51% in Ireland noting that they would be willing to pay more for ice cream made by local brands.
Some 56% of Irish consumers have bought ice cream in the last three months to treat themselves, making this the top reason for purchasing the dessert.

The United States leads the world in terms of ice cream consumption, with an average of 26 litres of ice cream per person consumed per year.
